This is an AOC agricole rhum from Martinique, single column distilled from fresh pressed sugarcane juice and aged a minimum of 10 years in a mix of virgin and re-charred oak barrels. It's bottled at 84 proof.
In the glass it's a lovely bright copper hue. It sheets the glass nicely and the legs take forever to sparsely break free before slowly creeping down the sides.
On the nose it boasts big, rich scents of semisweet chocolate, orange peel, honey, tobacco, oak, and dried fruits. The alcohol is nicely integrated.
On the palate it's light and velvety. Spice, orange pith, dark dried cherries, light brown sugar, with a little menthol and woody tannins blooming in the warm finish that seems to linger on forever. Ethanol bite is nearly non-existent, making it very sippable neat.
While not as complex as the Cuvée Homére, it has a lot of similar qualities, and it's more approachable, affordable, and accessible.
